Sirs: All Democrats and many Republicans believe that America is a democracy. They repeat the term often. Being a democracy is just one short step away from socialism, which history has shown to be a disaster for any country. America is not a democracy but a republic (Article IV, Section 4). We are reminded of this every time we pledge to the flag: “And to the republic, for which it stands”. If we want America to remain free we must remember that America is a republic, not a democracy.
